What is the HOBA AmeriCorps Program?
HandsOn Bay Area’s (HOBA’s) AmeriCorps members each have unique responsibilities to support HOBA's programs. They all share the value of national service and volunteerism.
AmeriCorps members support HOBA in every way. They become active and engaged civic leaders through direct service, capacity building and social networking experiences. Working individually and as a team, they gain personal and professional skills and experiences in order to become leaders for change in our communities beyond their year of service. AmeriCorps members meet personal and professional development goals by attending monthly team trainings, conferences, workshops or networking events.
2008-2009 AmeriCorps Team Initiatives
National AmeriCorps Week 2009
During the third-annual AmeriCorps Week, May 9th – 16th, current AmeriCorps members and alums celebrated shared passion of service to our communities. On May 10th, the HOBA AmeriCorps team served together at Bunny Meadows to improve the Oak Woodlands habitat in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. The HOBA team concluded the week by spearheading a picnic social on May 16th, bringing together current AmeriCorps members and alumni from across the Bay Area to share each other’s stories of service.
National Conference on Volunteering and Service 2009
The 2009 National Conference on Volunteering and Service was held in San Francisco on June 22nd – 24th. The world’s largest gathering of leaders in volunteering and service served as a forum to teach, connect and inspire attendees from across the globe. Armed with Flip cameras, a media team of HOBA’s AmeriCorps members captured stories and reactions of AmeriCorps members, alums and supporters attending the conference.
